This paper fits in the series of papers on the numerical computation of homoclinic and heteroclinic connections in ordinary differential equations and maps, authored by W.-J. Beyn, his PhD students and some other collaborators. This series started with the seminal work of \textit{W.-J. Beyn} [`The numerical computation of connecting orbits in dynamical systems, IMA J. Numer. Anal. 10, 379--405 (1990; Zbl 0706.65080)]. Further references are given in the present paper. In the present paper error estimates are obtained for approximating non-hyperbolic heteroclinic orbits of maps. Basically, the numerical method proposed for approximating the non-hyperbolic orbit is the same as for hyperbolic orbits; the non-hyperbolicity is restricted to one center direction in one of the endpoints. In a continuation context one therefore deals with a problem that under one-parameter variations generically becomes a problem of hyperbolic heteroclinic connections. Nevertheless, the non-hyperbolicity changes the error estimates in a fundamental way. The special tools needed for the error estimates are the polynomial dichotomy (instead of exponential dichotomy) of linear difference equations and a partial normal form transformation near the non-hyperbolic fixed point. The paper is carefully written and a numerical example with a two-dimensional state space is given.
