    Consider the second-order ODE \[ x''+2f(t)x'+\beta(t)x+g(t,x)=0,\;t\in \mathbb R_+, \tag{\(*\)} \] where \(\mathbb R_+:=[0,+\infty)\), \(f ,\beta:\mathbb R_+\to\mathbb R\), and \(g:\mathbb R_+\times \mathbb R\to\mathbb R\) are given functions. The stability of the null solution of (\(*\)) is discussed. The main result of this paper is the following theorem: The null solution of (\(*\)) is uniformly stable if the following conditions hold: (i) \(f\in C^1(\mathbb R_+)\) and \(f(t)\geq 0\) for all \(t\geq 0\); (ii) there exist two constants \(h\) and \(K\geq 0\) such that \(| f'(t)+f^2(t)| \leq Kf(t)\) \(\forall t\in [h,+\infty)\); (iii) \(\beta\in C^1(\mathbb R_+)\), \(\beta\) is decreasing, and \(\beta(t)\geq \beta_0>K^2\) \(\forall t\in \mathbb R_+\), where \(\beta_0\) is some constant; (iv) \(g\in C(\mathbb R_+\times\mathbb R)\) and \(g\) is locally Lipschitzian in \(x\); (v) \(g\) satisfies the following estimate \(| g(t,x)| \leq f(t) o(| x| )\) \(\forall t\in\mathbb R_+\), where ``\(o\)'' denotes the usual Landau symbol. If in addition the condition \(\int_0^\infty f(t)dt=+\infty\) holds, then the null solution of (\(*\)) is asymptotically stable.
