A predator-prey model of Beddington-DeAngelis type with maturation and gestation delays is formulated and investigated. The authors provide conditions for the convergence of the solutions to an equilibrium on the prey axis, permanence and global attractivity of the positive equilibrium. The presence of the two delays implies a complicated behavior including chaos and the existence of multi-periodic solutions. Biologically, the results mean that, if the predator has a short gestation stage and if the predator's highest recruitment rate is larger than its death rate, then predator and prey coexist permanently. Also, it is shown that, if the system is permanent, then a sufficiently large predator interference constant can stabilize the system. Several examples illustrate the results.
