Let \(K_i(G)\) be the \(i\)-th member of the lower central series of a finite \(p\)-group \(G\). It is known that \([K_i(G),K_j(G)]\leq K_{i+j}(G)\). If \(G\) is a group of maximal class and order \(p^m\), then the number \(c=\max\{k\leq m-2\mid[K_i(G),K_j(G)]=K_{i+j+k}(G)\}\) is said to be the `degree of commutativity' of \(G\). In this paper a lower bound for the degree of commutativity of some \(p\)-groups of maximal class in terms of \(m\) and two other invariant parameters is obtained. The proof of the main theorem is based on heavy computations.
