The main result of the paper states that for a density operator \(\rho\) (a positive semi-definite trace-one operator on the Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H})\) and two observables \(A\) and \(B\) (bounded self-adjoint operators on \(\mathcal{H}\)) the following inequality is fulfilled for \(\alpha\geq 0\), \(\beta\geq 0\) and \(\alpha+\beta\leq \frac{1}{2}\) or \(\alpha+\beta=1\) \[ U_{\rho,\alpha,\beta}(A)U_{\rho,\alpha,\beta}(B) \geq\alpha\beta\big|\text{Tr}\left[\rho\left[A,B\right]\right]\big|^2, \] where, for any observable \(H\) one defines \[ U_{\rho,\alpha,\beta}(H)=\sqrt{I_{\rho,\alpha,\beta}(H) J_{\rho,\alpha,\beta}(H)} \] with \[ I_{\rho,\alpha,\beta}(A)=\frac{1}{2}\text{Tr}\big[ \left(i\left[\rho^\alpha,H_0\right]\right) \left(i\left[\rho^\beta,H_0\right]\right)\rho^{1-\alpha-\beta}\big], \] and \[ J_{\rho,\alpha,\beta}(A)=\frac{1}{2}\text{Tr}\big[ \left\{\rho^\alpha,H_0\right\} \left\{\rho^\beta,H_0\right\}\rho^{1-\alpha-\beta}\big]. \] \([\cdot,\cdot]\) and \(\{\cdot,\cdot\}\) denote, respectively, the commutator and the anti-commutator and \(H_0=H-\text{Tr}[\rho,H]I\). The inequality can be treated as a generalized uncertainty relation for arbitrary two observables \(A\) and \(B\) an a density operator \(\rho\) in the sense that its left-hand-side measures some kind of the degree to which \(A\) and \(B\) do not commute. The quantity \(U_{\rho,\alpha,\beta}\) generalizes the so called Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information \[ I_{\rho,\alpha}(H)=\frac{1}{2}\text{Tr}\big[\left(i\left[\rho^\alpha,H\right]\right) \left(i\left[\rho^{1-\alpha},H\right]\right)\big] \] which, on its side, is a generalization of the skew information defined by Wigner and Yanase as \[ I_{\rho}(H)=\frac{1}{2}\text{Tr}\big[\left(i\left[\rho^{1/2},H\right]\right)^2\big]. \] A counter-example for \(\alpha\geq 0\), \(\beta\geq 0\) but \(\alpha+\beta> \frac{1}{2}\) is shown.
