The authors study the existence, uniqueness, and asymptotic behaviour of solutions to the Cauchy problem of the system of mixed (hyperbolic-elliptic) type of the multi-dimensional radiating gas: \[ u_t + \sum\limits_{i=1}^n{uu_{x_i}} + \text{div}\, {q} = 0,\quad \nabla\mathrm{div}{q}-q-\nabla u = 0. \] Initial distribution tends to constant values along the first spatial variable. The system is transformed into the high-order scalar equation. Then global existence and uniqueness of the solution are proved. The convergence of solutions and decay rates are proved by different methods for \(1\leq n\leq 8\).
