The authors establish an error estimate of the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method for an approximate solving of the hyperbolic problem \[ \beta \nabla u +\alpha u=f \text{ in }\Omega\:, \] \[ u = g \text{ on }\Gamma_{-}. \] Using discontinuous polynomials of degree \(k\) for a regular triangulation \(\tau_{h}\) with a certain condition the authors obtain the error estimate in \( L_{2}\) norm \[ \|u - u_{h}\|\leq C h^{k+1}|u |_{H^{k+1}(\tau_{h})}. \]
