The author considers the Cauchy problem for the wave equation with constant coefficients and linear damping and the initial value problem for the related parabolic equation. He denotes corresponding solutions with \(u(t,x)\) and \(v(t,x)\). The purpose of the paper is to investigate decay rates for the \(L^p\) norm of the difference \(w(t,x) = u(t,x) - v(t,x)\). Decay estimates for a similar problem have been proved by \textit{H. Yang} and \textit{A. Milani} [Bull. Sci. Math. 124, No. 5, 415--433 (2000; Zbl 0959.35126)]. In the present paper, the author shows that in case initial data are restricted to some weighted spaces, the above mentioned estimates can be slightly improved.
