The paper contains a thorough study of several linear and non-linear operators related to the multidimensional Hankel transform. The underlying second order differential operator is the Bessel operator \[ \Delta_\lambda=-\Delta-\sum_{i=1}^n\frac{2\lambda_i}{x_i}\frac\partial{\partial x_i}. \] \(\Delta_\lambda\) is symmetric and positive in \(L^2((0,\infty)^n,\,\mu_\lambda)\), where \(d\mu_\lambda(x)=\prod_{i=1}^nx_i^{2\lambda_i}\,dx_i\) and \(\lambda=(\lambda_1,\dotsc,\lambda_n)\in (-1\slash2,\infty)^n\) is a given type parameter; the same symbol \(\Delta_\lambda\) denotes the self-adjoint extension of the Bessel operator given in terms of the multidimensional Hankel transform \(H_\lambda\). The before mentioned linear and non-linear operators include maximal operators, Littlewood-Paley-Stein square functions and multipliers of Laplace transform type, all related to the heat semigroup \(\{\exp(-t \Delta_\lambda )\}\) or to the Poisson semigroup \(\{\exp(-t \sqrt{\Delta_\lambda })\}\), and Riesz transforms of order one or of higher orders. The main result of the paper, Theorem 2.1, says that all these operators are either scalar-valued, or can be seen as vector-valued Calderón-Zygmund operators in the setting of the space of homogeneous type \(((0,\infty)^n,\,\mu_\lambda,\,|\cdot|)\), where \(|\cdot|\) denotes the Euclidean distance. Consequently, their mapping properties follow by the general theory. Some aspects of the theory treated in the paper have also recently been investigated in [the first two authors and \textit{J. Curbelo}, J. Fourier Anal. Appl. 17, No. 5, 932--975 (2011; Zbl 1231.42008); Proc. R. Soc. Edinb., Sect. A, Math. 142, No. 5, 945--974 (2012; Zbl 1257.42035)], by methods not involving Calderón-Zygmund theory.
