The authors study representations of topological groups on Hilbert spaces. They propose a new property, which they call property \(F\otimes H\). Property \(F\otimes H\) is a generalization of Kazhdan's property \((T)\) or more precisely property \((FH)\). Recall that by a result due to Delorme and Guichardet property \((T)\) and property \((FH)\) are equivalent for \(\sigma\)-compact locally compact groups. Property \((FH)\) can be stated as the following vanishing condition: \(H^1(\Gamma, \pi, \mathcal{H})=0\) for any representation \(\pi\) on some Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H}\); this is the condition which the authors use as their definition for property \((T)\). They introduce property \(F\otimes H\) as the vanishing condition \(H^1(\Gamma, \pi_F\otimes \pi, F\otimes\mathcal{H})=0\), where \(\pi_F\) is a representation on a finite dimensional vector space \(F\). Hence essentially property \(F\otimes H\) is an extension of property \((T)\) to include products of a unitary representation \(\pi\) with some finite dimensional representation \(\pi_F\). In important cases property \(F\otimes H\) and property \((T)\) are equivalent: The authors show in theorem 1.2. that a semisimple Lie group or a cocompact lattice in a semisimple Lie group satisfy property \(F\otimes H\) if and only if they satisfy property \((T)\).
