Let \(K\) be a convex body of the Euclidean \(n\)-space \(\mathbb{E}^n\) which contains the origin \(\mathbf o\) of \(\mathbb{E}^n\). Let \(\mathbf u\) belong to the unit sphere \(S^{n-1}\) and let \(\lambda\) be the smallest positive number such that \(K + \lambda{\mathbf u}\) touches \(K\). The cone generated by \(K + \lambda{\mathbf u}\) is denoted by \(\operatorname{cone} (K, {\mathbf u})\). The author defines the conic volume \(r(K, {\mathbf u})\) as the ratio of the volume of \(\operatorname{cone} (K, {\mathbf u}) \cap B_2^n\) to the volume of \(B_2^n\), where \(B_2^n\) stands for the unit ball of \(\mathbb{E}^n\). The main result says that if \(K\) is centrally symmetric and if the number \(r(K, {\mathbf u})\) is the same for every \(\mathbf u\), then \(K\) is a ball.
