Let \(G\) be a (not necessarily split) symplectic, orthogonal or an inner form of a general linear \(p\)-adic group. Let \((\sigma,E)\) be an irreducible cuspidal representation of the Levi subgroup \(M\) of a parabolic subgroup \(P=MU\) of \(G\). Let \(X(M)\) be the variety of unramified characters of \(M\). Let \(W\) be the Weyl group of \(G\) defined using a maximal split torus in \(M\). Let \(O\) be the variety of equivalence classes of the representations \(\sigma\otimes\chi\), \(\chi\in X(M)\). Let \({}^WO=\{\,{}^wO;\,w\in W\}\) denote the orbit of \(O\) under the action of \(W\). Denote by \(i^G_P\) the functor of normalized parabolic induction, and by \(r^G_P\) its left adjoint. The category Rep\({}_G({}^WO)\) is a full subcategory of the category Rep\((G)\) (of smooth complex representations) consisting of the \(\pi\) such that: the set of equivalence classes of irreducible subquotients of \(r^G_{P'}\pi\) is contained in \({}^WO\) if \(P'\) is associated to \(P\); otherwise \(r^G_{P'}\pi\) contains no irreducible cuspidal subquotients. Let \(M^1\) be the intersection of the kernels of the unramified characters of \(M\). Let \((\sigma_1,E_1)\) be an irreducible component of the restriction of \(\sigma\) to \(M^1\). Denote by ind\({}^M_{M^1}\) the functor of compact induction. Bernstein showed that the category Rep\({}_G({}^WO)\) is equivalent to the category of right End\({}_G(i^G_P\text{ind}_{M^1}^ME_1)\)-modules. Note that ind\({}^M_{M^1}(E_1)\) is independent of the choice of \((\sigma_1,E_1)\). This equivalence of categories is compatible with parabolic induction and the functor of coinvariants. This paper presents the algebra End\({}_G(i^G_P\text{ind}_{M^1}^ME_1)\) as a module -- generated by intertwining operators \(T_w\) -- over the ring of regular functions on \(O\), and concludes that this algebra is the semidirect product of a Hecke algebra with parameters, in the sense of Lusztig, with the group algebra of a finite group, a type of \(R\)-group.
