On the existence and uniqueness of a solution to the interior transmission problem for piecewise-homogeneous solids (Q717494)

The paper examines the interior transmission problem for piecewise-homogeneous anisotropic elastic and viscoelastic solids. The authors prove existence and uniqueness of the solution of this problem which plays a critical role in a number of inverse scattering theories. A set of sufficient conditions is obtained in terms of elasticity and density parameters of the obstacle and the background solid. Examples and numerical results computed for configurations that meet the sufficient solvability conditions, illustrate the theoretical results.
