The paper considers the Helmholtz equation in multi-dimensional cylinders, with boundary conditions of the Dirichlet or Neumann conditions, that contain regular or singular perturbations. The analysis is focused on the case when the unperturbed boundary conditions do not give rise to any nontrivial solution, but the perturbation can do it. The so generated eigenvalues are considered, and asymptotic expansions for them are built. The problem may be applied to acoustic and quantum waveguides.
