The author studies the Cohen-Macaulayness of associated graded modules of Cohen-Macaulay modules and the analytic spread of an ideal with respect to a module. \textit{S. Huckaba} and \textit{C. Huneke} discussed the Cohen-Macaulayness of associated graded rings in the paper [Am.\ J.\ Math.\ 114, No.\ 2, 367--403 (1992; Zbl 0758.13001)]. The author extends their result to modules. Namely, he shows that if an equidimensional ideal \(I\) of a Cohen-Macaulay local ring is generically a complete intersection of analytic deviation one and reduction number at most one with respect to a module \(M\) then an associated graded module \(G_{I}(M)\) is Cohen-Macaulay. Furthermore, he proves the module case of \textit{R. Hübl} and \textit{C. Huneke}'s result in the paper [Collect.\ Math.\ 52, No.\ 1, 85--100 (2001; Zbl 0980.13006)]. The following inequality known as Burch's inequality gives the upper bound of the analytic spread \(l(I)\) for an ideal \(I\) of a ring \(A\): \[ l(I)\leq \dim A -\inf \{ \mathrm{depth}\, (A/I^{n}) \mid n \geq 1\}. \] Moreover, \textit{D. Eisenbud} and \textit{C. Huneke} proved that the bound is attained when an associated graded ring \(G_{I}(A)\) is Cohen-Macaulay in the paper [J.\ Algebra 81, 202--224 (1983; Zbl 0528.13024)]. Analogously, the author shows the inequality in the case of analytic spread of an ideal \(I\) with respect to a module \(M\). It also shown that the bound is attained when an associated graded module \(G_{I}(M)\) is Cohen-Macaulay.
