The authors consider the best constant of the \(L^p\) Sobolev inequality \[ \sup\limits_{-1\leq x \leq1}|u(x)|\leq C(\int_{-1}^1|u^{(M)}(x)|^pdx)^{1/p}, \] \(u^{(M)}\in L^p(-1,1)\) and \(u^{(2i)}(\pm 1)=0(0\leq i \leq [(M-1)/2])\) for the case \(M\) is odd. Up to now, only the case \(M=1\) was treated due to technical difficulties. This paper treats the case \(M=3\) with two different approaches. Symmetrizations of functions play an important role. For part I, see [Sci. Math. Jpn. 68, No. 3, 313--321 (2008; Zbl 1167.46023)].
