In this note, the authors show that any compact almost-complex manifold \((M,J)\) of real dimension \(2m\) can be pseudo-holomorphically embedded in \(\mathbb{R}^{6m}\) equipped with a suitable almost-complex structure \(\tilde{J}\). In particular, any compact Riemann surface can be realized as a pseudo-holomorphic curve in some \((\mathbb{R}^6,\tilde{J})\) (compare with the fact that the torus is the only one that can be pseudo-holomorphically embedded in some \((\mathbb{R}^4,\tilde{J})\) in view of [\textit{A. J. Di Scala} and \textit{L. Vezzoni}, Quart. J. Math. 61, No. 4, 401--405 (2010; Zbl 1213.53067)]). The proof of this almost complex version of the Whitney embedding theorem consists in proving that for any embedding \(f:M\hookrightarrow \mathbb{R}^{6m}\), \(J\) extends to the pullback \(f^\ast(T\mathbb{R}^{6m})\) and this extension is null-homotopic. Since the construction is essentially homotopy-theoretic, it gives no control on the integrability of the almost complex structure \(\tilde{J}\).
