The author studies dynamics of continuous self-maps of compact metric spaces possessing the pseudo-orbit tracing property. For \(\delta >0\), a \(\delta\)-pseudo orbit in \((X,f)\) is a finite or infinite sequence of points \((x_n)_{n=0} ^p\), \(p \in {\mathbb{N}} \cup \{\infty\}\), such that \(d(x_{n+1},f(x_n)) < \delta\) for every \(n < p\). We say a \(\delta\)-pseudo orbit \((x_n)_{n=0} ^p\) is \(\varepsilon\)-traced by a point \(y \in X\) if \(d(x_n,f^{n} (y)) < \varepsilon\) for every \(n < p\). And \(f\) is said to have the pseudo-orbit tracing property (POTP) if for every \(\varepsilon > 0\) there is \(\delta > 0\) such that every infinite \(\delta\)-pseudo orbit \((x_n)_{n=0} ^{\infty}\) in \((X,f)\) is \(\varepsilon\)-traced by some point in \(X\). The first interesting result in this paper says that if \(f: X \rightarrow X\) is a continuous map with the POTP, then the set of minimal points is dense in the non-wandering set \(\Omega(f)\). The next result in the paper connects special cases of maps with the POTP and mixing. The result says that, if the dynamical system \((X,f)\) has the POTP, then (i) if \(f\) is totally transitive, then \(f\) is mixing; (ii) if \(x\) is connected and \(f\) is non-wandering, then \(f\) is mixing. It is proven that in many cases the POTP implies positive topological entropy for non-equicontinuous maps. A result says that, if \(f : X \rightarrow X\) is continuous with the POTP and if \(f\) has either a non-minimal recurrent point or a sensitive minimal subsystem, then \(f\) has positive topological entropy. In the special case, when \(X\) is infinite and \(f\) is transitive, the author proves more. In that case \(f\) is either an odometer or a syndetically sensitive non-minimal map with positive topological entropy. In the end of the paper we can find a result which gives information about zero-entropy maps with the POTP. The theorem says that, if \(f\) has zero-entropy and \(f\) has the POTP, then the non-wandering set \(\Omega(f)\) is totally disconnected and \(f\) restricted to \(\Omega(f)\) is an equicontinuous homeomorphism.
