The paper addresses solutions of the Degasperis-Procesi equation, which is one of the integrable, higher-order generalizations of the Korteweg-de Vries equation which appear in the theory of water waves. Solutions generated by periodic initial conditions are considered. Using some approximations (without the resort to the integrability of the equation), results for the (lack of) uniform continuity of the solutions in the appropriate Sobolev space are obtained, depending on functional restrictions imposed on the initial conditions. The results supplement previously published ones dealing with the same problem.
