Let \(\pi:E\to B\) be a locally trivial fibre bundle with base and fibres being compact ENRs, \(B\) connected. Let \(S(\lambda)\) be the sphere bundle of a real line bundle \(\lambda\) over \(E\), let \(\xi\) be a real vector bundle over \(B\), and let \(f:S(\lambda)\to \xi\) be continuous. The main (Bourgin-Yang type) theorems yield lower bounds for the cohomological dimension of the set \(\tilde{Z}=\{v\in S(\lambda):f(v)=f(-v)\}\). These involve the map \(\pi^*\) in cohomology and the Euler class of \(S(\lambda)\). There is also a version for \(\lambda\) and \(\xi\) being complex bundles.
