Let \(\text{Emb}_c(\coprod_{i=1}^r{\mathbb{R}}^{m_i}, {\mathbb{R}}^d)\) be the space of smooth embeddings \(\coprod_{i=1}^r{\mathbb{R}}^{m_i}\hookrightarrow{\mathbb{R}}^d\) that coincide with a fixed affine embedding outside a compact set. Let \(\text{Imm}_c(\coprod_{i=1}^r{\mathbb{R}}^{m_i}, {\mathbb{R}}^d)\) be the space of smooth immersions with the same behavior at infinity. In this paper, the authors study the homotopy fiber of the inclusion \(\text{Emb}_c(\coprod_{i=1}^r{\mathbb{R}}^{m_i}, {\mathbb{R}}^d) \subset \text{Imm}_c(\coprod_{i=1}^r{\mathbb{R}}^{m_i}, {\mathbb{R}}^d)\), denoted by \(\overline{\text{Emb}}_c(\coprod_{i=1}^r{\mathbb{R}}^{m_i}, {\mathbb{R}}^d)\). They consider two kinds of complexes that compute the rational homology and homotopy groups of \(\overline{\text{Emb}}_c(\coprod_{i=1}^r{\mathbb{R}}^{m_i}, {\mathbb{R}}^d)\), in the case when \(d> 2\text{max}\{ m_i\mid 1\leq i\leq r\}+1\). All of these complexes split into a direct sum of finite complexes. The authors compute the generating functions for the Euler characteristic of these summands. The first kind of complexes, called Koszul complexes by the authors, are built up from the (co)homology of configuration spaces of points in \({\mathbb{R}}^{m_i}\) and in \({\mathbb{R}}^d\). The second type of complexes, called hairy graph-complexes, are like Kontsevich's commutative operad graph-complexes, with the exception that they may have external univalent vertices. They are built up from the positive arity components of the modular envelope \({\mathbf{Mod}}({\mathcal{L}}_\infty)\) of the \({\mathcal{L}}_\infty\) operad in case of odd \(d\), and from their twisted version \({\mathbf{Mod}}_{\text{Det}}({\mathcal{L}}_\infty)\) for even \(d\). As a consequence, the authors determine the supercharacter of the symmetric group action on the positive arity components of these modular envelopes.
