The authors consider a Rayleigh beam model which is supported on a nonlinear foundation and is under the action of a weak time-periodic external forcing. They reduce the infinite-dimensional structural vibration problem to a low-dimensional model based on the notion of spectral submanifolds. Furthermore, they prove well posedness and global existence for the equation of motion for the vertical displacement of the beam. They also show existence and uniqueness of spectral submanifolds by using invariant manifold results on Banach spaces.
