A **Snakemake** workflow that reproduces the Chladni figure gallery from Gander and Kwok (2012) by computing the eigenmodes of the biharmonic equation on a square free plate and matching them to theoretical Chladni patterns. The biharmonic stiffness matrix is assembled in **Octave** using a conforming Hermite finite element discretisation, and 90 eigenmodes are extracted via **ARPACK**. Each computed eigenfunction is matched to a theoretical Chladni target shape by greedy L2 projection using cosine similarity, and the nodal-line contour plots are stitched into a composite grid image.\N\N### Main steps\N\N**download_dependencies** — fetches numgrid.m and delsq.m helper functions from an external source.\N\N**generate_chladni_figures** — runs chladni.m in Octave with grid size, mu, mode count, and random seed from config, producing individual contour PNGs.\N\N**stitch_grid** — assembles all figures into the composite chladni_grid.png using a Python script.
