The main contribution of the paper is introducing the hierarchical spline extension of the B-spline quasi-interpolation scheme and its convergence properties. It provides a number of interesting numerical examples supporting the introduced algorithms. The spline quasi-interpolation is a general and powerful approach for the construction of low cost and accurate approximations of a given function. An extensive and rich literature is included. It is also shown that a variant of the scheme that not require information on the derivatives which has similar futures.
