A Banach space has the (resp. local (LD2P), strong (SD2P)) diameter \(2\) property (D2P) if every nonempty relatively weakly open subset (resp. slice, convex combination of slices) of its unit ball has diameter 2. Since slices are relatively weakly open subsets of the unit ball, and every relatively weakly open subset contains a convex combination of slices, we clearly have that SD2P \(\Rightarrow\) D2P and D2P \(\Rightarrow\) LD2P. In a dual Banach space, one can define also the weak\(^\ast\) versions of the above mentioned diameter \(2\) properties just by replacing slices with weak\(^\ast\) slices and relatively weakly open subsets by relatively weak\(^\ast\) open subsets. Again, we have similar implications \(w^\ast\)-SD2P \(\Rightarrow\) \(w^\ast\)-D2P and \(w^\ast\)-D2P \(\Rightarrow\) \(w^\ast\)-LD2P. It is known that all of these six properties are extremely different [\textit{J. Becerra Guerrero} et al., Adv. Math. 269, 56--70 (2015; Zbl 1312.46022)]. The main results of the paper under review consider when these diameter \(2\) properties are inherited by a subspace. The authors prove that the LD2P (resp. D2P, SD2P) passes from a Banach space \(X\) to a subspace \(Y\) whenever the quotient \(X/Y\) is finite-dimensional and \(Y\) is complemented by a norm one projection (resp. \(X/Y\) is finite-dimensional, \(X/Y\) is strongly regular). A similar result for the weak\(^\ast\) diameter \(2\) properties is also presented.
