For a given Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H}\), and a \textit{unitary system} (a set of unitary operators \(\mathcal{U}\) which contains the identity) a unit vector \(x\in \mathcal{H}\) is a \textit{wandering vector} for \(\mathcal{U}\) if the set \[ \mathcal{U} x = \{ Ux: U \in \mathcal{U}\} \] is an orthonormal set. This is the key notion for results which connect operator theory and orthonormal wavelets given in [\textit{X. Dai} and \textit{D. R. Larson}, Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 640, 68 p. (1998; Zbl 0990.42022)]. An extension to frame theory can be found in [\textit{D. Han} and \textit{D. R. Larson}, Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 697, 94 p. (2000; Zbl 0971.42023)]. After a clearly written introduction, in Section 2, the authors study the properties of the local commutants of a set of operators at a cyclic subspace of vectors. The exposition mainly follows Chapters 1 and 2 from [Dai and Larson, loc. cit.] where the local commutants of a set of operators at a point were studied instead. Section 3 is devoted to fusion frames (cf. [\textit{P. G. Casazza} and \textit{G. Kutyniok}, Contemp. Math. 345, 87--113 (2004; Zbl 1058.42019)]) in the context of wandering subspaces. The authors introduce the concept of a fusion frame generator and of generalized (local) commutants, which are used in the characterization of Parseval fusion frame generators. Thereafter, the dilation property for Parseval fusion frame generators for unitary groups is studied.
