The paper deals with the general neutral functional differential equation \((*)\quad\frac{d}{dt}(p(t)[x(t)-A(t,x_t)]),\) a.e. in \([t_0,+\infty),\) where \(x_t\) denotes the infinite history of the function \(x\) at the moment \(t\), namely, \(x_t(\theta)=x(t+\theta), \quad \theta\in(-\infty, 0].\) Here, the phase space of equation \((*)\) is considered to be the linear space \(BC((-\infty,0],{\mathbb{R}}^n)\) of all continuous and bounded functions \(\phi:(-\infty,0]\to{\mathbb{R}}^n\) furnished with the topology induced by the sup-norm. The main contributions of the paper stand on the following aspects of the solutions: First the existence and uniqueness of solutions in \(BC((-\infty,0],{\mathbb{R}}^n)\) is proved by using the Krasnoselskii (compact plus contraction) fixed point theorem. This is presented in subsection 3.1. Next, the Lipschitz type stability and the so-called practical stability are studied. Section 4 is devoted to some illustrative applications, where two concrete examples are given and equation \((*)\) where \(A(t,x_t)=\int_{-\infty}^tD(t,s)x(s)ds\) and \(f(t,x)t)=a(t)b(t)x(t-\tau(t))+g(t)\int_{-\infty}^tC(t,s)x(s)ds+\omega(t,x(t-r(t))\) a.e. in \([t_0,+\infty),\) is investigated. One of the most interesting points of the paper is the use of the Perron-type integral as the function \(t\to f(t,x_t))\) is concerned for all functions \(x\in BC((-\infty,0],{\mathbb{R}}^n)\). Section 5 of the paper investigates the same properties with \((*)\) for the special case \(A(t,x_t)=0\), with impulses of the form \(x(t^+)-x(t^-)=\beta_jx(t_j),\) \(j=1, 2, 3, \cdots\) where the sequence of the moments \((t_j)\) satisfies \(t_0<t_1,<t_2<\cdots\) and \(t_j\to+\infty.\) The paper ends with some specific examples of impulsive functional differential equations.
