The authors investigate the existence and the orbital stability of solitary wave solutions for the following planar Schrödinger-Poisson system with positive potentials \[ \begin{cases} i\psi_t+\frac{1}{2}D\triangle\psi+2A\omega\psi+b|\psi|^{p-2}\psi=0, &(x,t)\in\mathbb{R}^2\times\mathbb{R},\\ \displaystyle -\triangle\omega+m^2\omega=\frac{A}{\nu}|\psi|^2,&(x,t)\in\mathbb{R}^2\times\mathbb{R},\\ \displaystyle \psi(x,0)=\psi_0(x). \end{cases} \] Here, \(D\), \(A\), \(m\), \(\nu\) and \(b\) are positive constants, \(\psi\) is the (time-dependent) wave function, \(\omega\) represents an internal potential for a nonlocal self-interaction of the wave function \(\psi\), \(\psi_0(x)\in H^1(\mathbb{R}^2)\). The authors obtain the existence of solitary wave solutions for the problem when \(m>0\), which extends the results in the case \(m=0\). Moreover, they prove the orbital stability of the solitary wave solutions.
