A weighted composition operator (with two symbols) is obtained by composing a multiplication operator with a composition operator, the symbol of the composition operator being usually an analytic self-map of the unit disk into itself and the symbol of the multiplication operator an analytic function in the disk. Boundedness and compactness of such operators acting between two spaces of analytic functions in the disk have been considered in a number of papers, many of them using similar techniques. The author of the present paper considers such operators acting between two spaces of Dirichlet type (that is, spaces of analytic functions whose derivative is \(p\)-integrable for a certain exponent \(p>0\)) with respect to the standard radial weights. He associates certain pull-back measures to the symbols of the weighted composition operator and, under the additional assumption that such measures are Carleson measures (or vanishing Carleson measures) in an appropriate sense, he reduces the study of weighted composition operators between two spaces of Dirichlet type to the study of associated weighted composition operators (with different symbols) acting between certain weighted Bergman spaces, characterizes the boundedness and compactness of the initial operators, and obtains estimates of their essential norm.
