Let \(S\) be a compact connected surface with non-empty boundary having negative Euler characteristic. The Teichmüller space \(T(S)\) is the space of all isotopy classes of hyperbolic metrics with totally geodesic boundary on \(S\). As a family of coordinates on \(T(S)\), F. Luo introduced the \(\psi_{\lambda}\) edge invariant of a hyperbolic metric [arXiv:math/0612714v1]. For a fixed ideal triangulation of \(S\), it is defined on the set \(E\) of edges of the ideal triangulation of \(S\): \[ \psi_{\lambda}(e)=\int_0^{\frac{a+b-c}{2}}\cosh^{\lambda}(t) \, dt+\int_0^{\frac{a^{\prime}+b^{\prime}-c^{\prime}}{2}}\cosh^{\lambda}(t) \, dt \qquad (e\in E), \] where \(a\), \(b\), \(c\), \(a^{\prime}\), \(b^{\prime}\), and \(c^{\prime}\) are the lengths of arcs in the boundary determined by the two right-angled hexagons sharing the edge \(e\). Then the map \(\Psi_{\lambda}:T(S)\to \mathbb{R}^E\) sending a hyperbolic metric to its \(\psi_{\lambda}\) edge invariant is a smooth embedding for any \(\lambda\in \mathbb{R}\). It was shown by F. Luo that the image \(\Psi_{\lambda}(T(S))\) is an open convex polytope if \(\lambda \geq 0\). In the paper under review, the author shows that if \(\lambda<0\), then \(\Psi_{\lambda}(T(S))\) is a bounded open convex polytope. According to the present paper, this result was conjectured by F. Luo.
