We recall that a bounded linear operator \(T\) from the Banach space \(X\) to the Banach space \(Y\) is said to have the Banach-Saks (BS) property if every bounded sequence \((x_{n})\) in \(X\) contains a subsequence \((x_{n}')\) such that the Cesàro means of \((Tx_{n}')\) converge in \(Y\). A Banach space \(X\) has the BS property if the identity \(I_{X}\) has the BS property. The paper under review deals with the quantitative versions of several problems related to stability of the BS property. First, inspired by [\textit{B.\,Beauzamy}, Stud.\ Math.\ 66, 227--235 (1980; Zbl 0437.46061)], the author introduces the following geometric characteristic for bounded sequences in Banach spaces. Let \((x_{n})\) be a bounded sequence in a Banach space \(X\). The arithmetic separation of \((x_{n})\) is defined by: \[ \text{asep}(x_{n})=\inf\Bigg\|\frac{1}{m} \bigg(\sum_{n \in A} x_{n} - \sum _{n \in B} x_{n}\bigg)\Bigg\|, \] the infimum being taken over all \(m \in \mathbb N\) and all finite subsets \(A, B \subset \mathbb N\), with \(|A|=|B|=m\) and \(\max A < \min B\). Then, he proves that a Banach space \(X\) does not have the BS property if and only if there exists a bounded sequence \((x_{n})\) in \(X\) such the \(\text{asep}(x_{n})>0\). Next, the author defines the following seminorm which measures the deviation of operators from the BS property. Let \(X\) and \(Y\) be Banach spaces and \(T\) a bounded linear operator from \(X\) to \(Y\). Set \[ \Phi_{BS}(T)= \sup\{\text{asep}(Tx_{n}): (x_{n}) \subset B(X) \}, \] where \(B(X)\) denotes the open unit ball of \(X\). Thus, he proves a quantitative stability of this seminorm for a class of operators acting between \(l_{p}\)-sum of Banach spaces which generalizes a result of [\textit{J.\,R.\thinspace Partington}, Math.\ Proc.\ Camb.\ Philos.\ Soc.\ 82, 369--374 (1977; Zbl 0368.46018)]. Finally, he shows logarithmically convex-type estimates of this seminorm for operators interpolated by the real method of Lions and Peetre. As a consequence, he provides another proof of the heredity of the BS property under real interpolation that was obtained in [\textit{S.\,Heinrich}, J.~Funct.\ Anal.\ 35, 397--411 (1980; Zbl 0439.47029)].
