    Let \(\mathcal{H}\) be a complex Hilbert space. The author shows a norm inequality for commutators as follows: Let \(S\) and \(T\) be normal operators with \( a_{1}I\leq \operatorname{Re} S\leq a_{2}I\), \( b_{1}I\leq \operatorname{Re} T\leq b_{2}I\), \( c_{1}I\leq \operatorname{Im} S\leq c_{2}I\) and \( d_{1}I\leq \operatorname{Im} T\leq d_{2}I\), where \(\operatorname{Re} X\) and \(\operatorname{Im} X\) mean real and imaginary parts of an operator \(X\), respectively. Then, for every operator \(X\) and unitarily invariant norm \(|||\cdot |||\), \[ \begin{multlined} ||| SX-XT||| \leq \tfrac{1}{2}(\sqrt{(a_{2}-a_{1})^{2}+(c_{2}-c_{1})^{2}}+ \sqrt{(b_{2}-b_{1})^{2}+(d_{2}-d_{1})^{2}}\\ + \sqrt{(a_{1}+a_{2}-b_{1}-b_{2})^{2}+(c_{1}+c_{2}-d_{1}-d_{2})^{2}})|||X|||. \end{multlined} \] This is shown by using only elementary methods. It generalizes some known norm inequalities for commutators of selfadjoint operators in, for example, [\textit{F.\,Kittaneh}, J.~Funct.\ Anal.\ 250, No.\,1, 132--143 (2007; Zbl 1131.47009)].
