An operator \(T:X \rightarrow X\) on a Banach space \(X\) is called a J-class operator if there exists \(x\in X\setminus \{ 0\}\) such that, for any \(y\in X\), there exists an increasing sequence \((k_n)_n\) of integers and a sequence \((x_n)_n\) of vectors converging to \(x\), such that the sequence \((T^{k_n}x_n)_n\) converges to \(y\). In that case, \(x\) is called a J-vector. The authors show that a unilateral weighted shift \(T=B_w:\ell^\infty \rightarrow \ell^\infty\) with weight sequence \(w=(w_i)_i\) is a J-class operator if and only if \(\lim_n (\inf_j\prod_{i=1}^n w_{i+j})=+\infty\). Moreover, the corresponding set of J-vectors is, in that case, \(c_0\setminus \{ 0\}\). In contrast, no bilateral weighted shift on \(\ell^\infty\) can be a J-class operator.
