Let \(A\) be a finite-dimensional algebra over a fixed field \(k\). Recall that an indecomposable \(A\)-module \(M\) is generic if \(M\) is infinite dimensional over \(k\) but of finite endolength (length over endomorphism ring End\(_A(M)\)). Then \(A\) is centrally generically tame if, for any positive integer \(d\), there are only finitely many isomorphism classes of generic \(A\)-modules of endolength \(d\) for which the factor of the endomorphism ring modulo the Jacobson radical via a division algebra which is finite-dimensional over its center. An algebra \(A\) over \(k\) is sharply wild if there is an \(A\)-\(k\langle x,y\rangle\)-bimodule \(N\) which as a right module is free of finite rank and such that the functor \(N\otimes_{k\langle x,y\rangle}-: k\langle x,y\rangle\)-Mod\(\to A\)-Mod preserves indecomposables, isomorphism classes of indecomposables and the radical factor of the endomorphism ring of any indecomposable module up to isomorphism. Then \(A\) is almost sharply wild if there is a finite field extension \(\mathbb F\) of \(k\) such that \(A^{\mathbb F}\) is sharply wild. In the paper under review, the authors prove that a finite-dimensional algebra \(A\) over a perfect field is centrally generically tame if and only if \(A\) is not almost sharply wild (Theorem 1.5). Note that this main result together with the parametrization theorem (Theorem 7.1) can be considered as a generalization of the remarkable Drozd's tame and wild theorem (see \textit{Y. A. Drozd}, Lect. Notes Math. 832, 242--258 (1980; Zbl 0457.16018)) to algebras over a perfect field.
