The paper concerns the solutions \(v=v(x)\) to the problem \(-\Delta v= A(x) v_+^\gamma,\) such that \(\int_{\mathbb{R}}v_+^{\frac{n(\gamma-1)}{2}} dx\leq T<+\infty\) in an open set \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^n\), where \(\gamma\in \left(1,\frac{n+2}{n-2}\right)\), \(n\geq 3\), \(v_+=\max\{v,0\}\), \(T\geq0\) is a given constant and \(A(x)\) is a function defined on \(\overline{\Omega}\). The first main result states that any nontrivial classical solution \(v\) for the case \(\Omega\equiv\mathbb{R}^n\) and \(A(x)\equiv1\) is radially symmetric about some point \(x_0\in\mathbb{R}^n\). In addition, \(\int_{\mathbb{R}}v_+^{\frac{n(\gamma-1)}{2}} dx=\lambda_\gamma^*\), where \(\lambda_\gamma^*>0\) is a constant depending only on \(n\) and \(\gamma\). Next, a sup+inf-type inequality is proved in the following sense. Assume that \(A(x)\geq0\) is continuous and bounded, \(T>0\) and let \(K\subset\Omega\) be a compact set. Then there exist constants \(C_2=C_2(n,\gamma,A)>0\) and \(C_3=C_3(n,\gamma,K,T,A)>0\) such that \(\sup_K v+C_2\inf_\Omega v\leq C_3\) for any solution \(v\). The final main result concerns the behaviour of a sequence \((v_k)\) of solutions to the equations \(-\Delta v= A_k(x) v_+^\gamma,\) where \(0\leq A_k \in C(\overline{\Omega})\) is such that \(A_k\rightarrow A\) in \(C(\overline{\Omega})\) for some function \(A \in C(\overline{\Omega})\). Passing to a subsequence the following alternatives hold: either \((i)\) \((v_k)\) is locally uniformly bounded in \(\Omega\), or \((ii)\) \(v_k\rightarrow-\infty\) locally uniformly in \(\Omega\), or \((iii)\) there exists a finite set \(S=\{x_i\}_{i=1}^l\) such that \(v_k\rightarrow-\infty\) locally uniformly in \(\Omega\setminus S\) and \((v_k)_+^{\frac{n(\gamma-1)}{2}}dx \) is weakly-star convergent in the dual space (of measures) to \(C(\Omega)\) with a limit equal to a linear combination \(\sum_{i=1}^l m(x_i)\delta_{x_i}(dx)\) of Dirac measures \(\delta_{x_i}(dx)\) concentrated at the points \(x_i\). Moreover, a quantized blowup behaviour is exhibited: the coefficients \(m(x_i)\) satisfy \(m(x_i)\in A(x_i)^{-n/2}\lambda_\gamma^*\mathbb{N}\) for \(i=1,2,\ldots, l\), where \(\lambda_\gamma^*\) is the constant described above.
