A field \(F\) is said to be an \(n\)-dimensional local field if either \(n = 0\) and \(F\) is a finite field, or \(n \geq 1\) and there is a chain of fields \(F_{0} = F, F_{1}, \dots, F_{n}\) such that, for \(0 \leq i \leq n-1,\) \(F_{i}\) is a complete discrete valuation field with residue field \(F_{i+1}\) and \(F_{n}\) is a finite field. It turns out that a characteristic zero higher local field \(F\) always admits an embedding of a \(1\)-dimensional local field \(K\) into it. The paper under review is concerned with the study of the vector space structure given by such a field embedding \(K \to F.\) One of the main results proves that the higher topologies of higher local fields, first introduced in [\textit{A. N. Parshin}, Tr. Mat. Inst. Steklova 165, 143--170 (1984; Zbl 0535.12013)], are locally convex. Also, bounded, c-compact and compactoid submodules of higher local fields are introduced and studied.
