Let \(X\) be a Banach space. An \(f:[0,1]\to X\) is called Darboux integrable if it is bounded and its set of discontinuity points has Lebesgue measure zero. When \(X\) is finite-dimensional, Darboux integrability is nothing but Riemann integrability. For infinite-dimensional spaces Darboux integrability still implies Riemann integrability, while the converse is not true in general, and Banach spaces for which this is true are called Lebesgue spaces. The author first notes that if \(f\) (as above) is Darboux integrable then not just is \(f\) Riemann integrable, but also \(\|f\|\) is. The main result is now that if the norm of \(X\) has Kadets' property (P), and both \(f\) and \(\|f\|\) are Riemann integrable, then \(f\) is Darboux integrable. Kadets' property (P) means that \(S_{X^\ast}\) contains a countable set \(T\) such that whenever \(\{x_n\}\subset X\) and \(x\in X\) are such that \(\|x_n\|\to\|x\|\) and \(x_n\to x\) pointwise on \(T\), then \(\|x_n-x\|\to 0\). It is easy to see that separable LUR-spaces enjoy Kadets' property (P), and the author extends this to LUR-spaces with a weak-star separable dual unit ball. However, no non-separable space with Kadets' property (P) seems to be known. Also, the author demonstrates that every Banach space has an equivalent norm without Kadets' property (P). Next follows a list of illustrating examples.
