Let \(R\) be an associative ring with a unit and \(G\) be a group. Let \(K_n(RG)\) be the algebraic \(K\)-groups of the group ring \(RG\), and \({\mathbf L}_n^{<-\infty>}(RG)\) be the ultimate lower quadratic \(L\)-groups of \(RG\) (see [\textit{A. Ranicki}, Lower \(K\)- and \(L\)-theory. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press (1992; Zbl 0752.57002)]). In the case of \(L\)-theory, the ring \(R\) is assumed to have an involution. Let \(\underline{\underline{E}}G\) be the contractible \(G\)-free universal space. The Farrell-Jones conjecture [\textit{F. T. Farrell} and \textit{L. E. Jones}, J. Am. Math. Soc. 6, No. 2, 249--297 (1993; Zbl 0798.57018)] states that the assembly maps in \(K\)- and \(L\)-Theory \[ H_n^G(\underline{\underline{E}}G; {\mathbf K}_R) \overset{\cong}{\rightarrow} K_n(RG) \quad \text{and} \quad H_n^G(\underline{\underline{E}}G; {\mathbf L}_R^{<-\infty>}) \overset{\cong}{\rightarrow} L_n^{<-\infty>}(RG) \] are bijection for every integer \(n\). The Farrell-Jones Conjecture helps to calculate the \(K\)- and \(L\)-theory of group rings, since homology groups are equipped with tools such as spectral sequences that can simplify computations. In the paper under review, the authors rely on the fact that the Farrell-Jones Conjecture was proved for the case of hyperbolic groups and virtually finitely generated abelian groups to compute the algebraic \(K\)- and \(L\)-theory of the group rings in several cases by analyzing the left-hand side of the assembly map. To accomplish this they mainly use \textit{induction structure} of the equivariant homology theories [\textit{W. Lück}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 543, 193--234 (2002; Zbl 0987.55008)] and the work in [\textit{W. Lück} and \textit{M. Weiermann}, Pure Appl. Math. Q. 8, No. 2, 497--555 (2012; Zbl 1258.55011)] which investigates when a universal space for a given group \(G\) and a given family of subgroups \({\mathcal F}\) can be constructed from a universal space for \(G\) and a smaller family \({\mathcal F'} \subset {\mathcal F}\).
