Let \(G\) be a Hausdorff locally compact group with identity \(e\). Denote by \(G^\mathcal{LUC}\) the largest semigroup compactification of \(G\). It is well known that \(G^\mathcal{LUC}\) can be viewed as the spectrum of the \(C^\ast\)-algebra \(\mathcal{LUC}\) of all left uniformly continuous functions on \(G\). The author presents a simple proof of the following statement. Theorem 1. (Veech) If \(s\in G\) with \(s\not= e\), then \(sq\not= q\) for every \(q\in G^\mathcal{LUC}\).
