The Dirichet series which are studied in this paper are \[ D_1(s)= \sum_{n\geq 1} \lambda_n n^{-s}\quad\text{and}\quad D_2(s)= \sum_{n\geq 1} \lambda^2_n n^{-s}. \] Here, \(\lambda_n= \lambda_F(n)/n^{k-3/2}\) are the normalized eigenvalues, and \(\lambda_F(n)\) are the eigenvalues of a Siegel cusp form \(F\) of degree 2 and integral weight \(k\), which is an eigenform of all the Hecke operators \(T(n)\). It is assumed that \(F\) is not a Saito-Kurokawa lift. Note that the \(\lambda_n\) are real numbers. The Ramanujan-Petersson conjecture, now \textit{R. Weissauer's} theorem [Endoscopy for \(\mathrm{GSp}(4)\) and the cohomology of Siegel modular threefolds. Lecture Notes in Mathematics 1968. Berlin: Springer. xvii, 368 p. (2009; Zbl 1273.11089)], implies that both \(D_1(s)\) and \(D_2(s)\) are absolutely convergent for \(\text{Re}(s)>1\). The authors show that \(D_2(s)\) admits an analytic continuation to \(\text{Re}(s)>{1\over 2}\) with the exception of a simple pole at \(s=1\) with a positive residue \(c_F\). It follows that the abscissa of absolute convergence of \(D_1(s)\) is \(1\) and that \(\sum_{n\leq x} \lambda_n^2= c_F x+ o(x)\). As their main result, the authors obtain an explicit error term in this asymptotic formula: for large \(x\), and every \(\eta> 0\), \[ \sum_{n\leq x} \lambda^2_n= c_F x+O_\eta(k^{5/16} x^{31/32}+ \eta). \]
