The author investigates some negative motivic homology groups, i.e. groups \(H_i(X, \mathbb{Z}(j))\) where \(i\) is negative (and so is \(j\)). Here motivic homology in defined as appropriate morphism sets in Voevodsky's category \(DM\), and \(X\) is a scheme of finite type over a finite base field \(\mathbb{F}_q\). In particular the author shows that \(H_{-1}(X, \mathbb{Z}(j)) = H_{-1}(\pi_0(X), \mathbb{Z}(j))\) for \(j \in \{-1, -2\}\), and some additional vanishing results. Here \(\pi_0(X)\) is the scheme of connected components which is an étale algebra over the base field. In particular its motivic cohomology in degree \(-1\) is known. These results are related to similar results of \textit{S. Kondo} and \textit{S. Yasuda} [``On two higher Chow groups of schemes over a finite field'', \url{arXiv:1306.1607}], formulated in terms of Borel-Moore motivic homology. Essentially all results are proved under the assumption of resolution of singularities, which is not established for any finite field at the time of this writing. This reviewer would describe the proofs in the article as a calculational tour de force.
