The authors consider a loaded second-order differential operator on a finite interval of the real line. The convergence rate of the spectral expansion of a function is compared with the trigonometric Fourier series expansion of the same function, both on the interior compact set and on the entire interval. The eigenfunctions and associated root functions are understood in the generalized sense. They prove that the estimates for the equiconvergence rates hold for both the original as well as the more generalized operator.
