Let \(\mathbb{D}\) denote the unit disk of \(\mathbb{C}\) and let \(\mathrm{BMOH}(\mathbb{D})\) denote the space of harmonic functions with radial limits, defined almost everywhere, in the classical space \(\mathrm{BMO}(\partial\mathbb{D})\). The author characterizes \(\mathrm{BMOH}(\mathbb{D})\) in terms of approximations by locally constant functions. A similar result is obtained for the holomorphic space \(\mathrm{BMOA}(\mathbb{D})\). Also, the author establishes a natural correspondence between spaces of \(\mathrm{BMO}\) functions and spaces of harmonic sections of flat principal bundles with fiber \(\mathbb{R}\) on the maximal ideal space of the Banach algebra \(H^\infty(\mathbb{D})\).
