Maximal immersions of a surface \(M^ 2\) into the n-dimensional Lorentz space which are isometric to a fixed holomorphic mapping of \(M^ 2\) into the complex Lorentz space are determined. The main tool is an adaptation of Calabi's rigidity theorem. Such an adaptation is necessary because of the existence of degenerate hyperplanes in complex Lorentz space.
