We examine the convergence properties of the finite element method with nodes moving along the characteristics for one-dimensional convection- diffusion equations. For linear elements, we demonstrate optimal rates of convergence in the \(L^ 2\), \(H^ 1\) and \(L^{\infty}\) norms. Both linear and nonlinear problems are considered.
