Some existence and bifurcation results for solutions of nonlinear Sturm- Liouville eigenvalue problems (Q749727)

A nonlinear Sturm-Liouville problem on the half-line is considered. When the nonlinearity is not odd, a previous result shows there are infinitely many solutions which are distinguished by their nodal properties; however, some nodal classes may have no solution. Moreover, the empty and nonempty nodal classes appear in certain regular patterns. In this paper, we find some criteria under which we can predict the occurrence of certain patterns and preclude others. In the bifurcation diagram, these criteria together with some previous results enable us to illustrate an example that two continua of solutions, emanating from the line of trivial solutions and having different nodal properties, can merge together.
