Being noiseless, friction free and dispensing with lubrication, induction bearings may be advantageously employed by the mechanical industry whenever high rotating speeds are demanded. This paper considers the heat generated by the electric current acting on an induction bearing seen as a conductor in motion. The employed model couples the linear stationary heat transfer equation in two-dimensions to the electromagnetic field equations. Approximate solutions obtained with the finite element method (FEM) are presented that lead to some practical conclusions, but more precise data on the parameters chosen for the FEM implementation carried over are not included.
