Let f be a Siegel cusp form of degree r and weight k. For \(n>r\) and \(k>n+r+1\) one can attach to f a Siegel modular form of degree n by \[ E^ k_{n,r}(f)(Z)=\sum_{M}f(M<Z>_ 1) \det (CZ+D)^{-k}, \] where \(M= \begin{pmatrix} A&B \\ C&D \end{pmatrix}\) runs through the cosets of Sp(n,\({\mathbb{Z}})\) for an appropriate parabolic subgroup of Sp(n) and for \(Z\in {\mathbb{H}}_ n\) \((=Siegel's\) upper half space of degree n) we denote by \(Z_ 1\) the block matrix of size r in the upper left corner of Z. This type of Eisenstein series was introduced by \textit{H. Klingen} [Math. Z. 102, 30-43 (1967; Zbl 0155.404)]. The Fourier expansion of these Eisenstein series was determined by the reviewer [Math. Z. 183, 21-46 (1983; Zbl 0497.10020)] - special cases had been treated before by S. Mizumoto, M. Koike and the reviewer. The purpose of the paper under review is to give a new proof of the reviewer's formula by a method, which is a modification of an old result of the author in [Nagoya Math. J. 74, 95-122 (1979; Zbl 0404.10014)]. That old result of the author was a formula for the Fourier coefficients involving certain exponential sums; the main point in the new proof is that one can use Hecke operators to get rid of those exponential sums. The author's method completely avoids the use of Siegel-Eisenstein series of degree \(n+r\), which was an important (but somewhat artificial) tool in the reviewer's proof.
