The purpose of this paper is to provide a general framework for the construction of local interpolation methods in \({\mathbb{R}}^ s\) with a given approximation order. These methods have the following properties: a) The interpolant depends locally and linearly on the data; b) arbitrary interpolation problems, including interpolation of scattered data, and Hermite interpolation, can be handled; c) any desired order of approximation can be achieved. Some interesting specific examples and applications to multivariate spline spaces are presented.
