Some results about the pseudospectral approximation of one-dimensional fourth-order problems (Q751206)

Beginning with a consideration of boundary value problems for the rod equation \(u^{IV}=f\) the authors investigate the convergence in weighted Sobolev spaces of the pseudospectral discretizations (collocation method) in Legendre and Chebyshev cases for Dirichlet boundary value problems for general equations of fourth order \(u^{IV}+a(x)u^{III}+b(x)u^{II}+c(x)u^{I}+d(x)u=f(x).\) An application of the considered method to the two-dimensional Dirichlet problem for a linear rombic plate (the biharmonic equation) is also studied. Some numerical results are presented.
